Box to OneDrive Migration
Box to OneDrive Process
The Icahn Mount Sinai Box service will be shut down in 2023 and we will begin migrating users off Box and onto OneDrive in January 2023. ISMMS Box accounts will no longer be provisioned as we prepare for this migration. The migration will be completed in 2 phases, one which completed in March 2023 and the last wave taking place in August 2023 for a small subset of departments. Individual communications will be sent out to Box users with a date of their scheduled migration. Please be prepared for this upcoming migration and clean up any unnecessary data on your Box account.
Digital Technology & Partners (DTP) offers various options for ISMMS faculty, researchers, staff, and students to securely store data in the cloud, most notably through Microsoft O365 OneDrive and Teams, and Google Drive. All the platforms above are fully supported and HIPAA-compliant.
Next steps
Many active ISMMS Box accounts have a small number of files and have few sharing relationships. In these cases, the community is encouraged to undertake the migration of their Box account contents to Microsoft OneDrive. For questions or help with migrating your files, please visit or contact the Academic IT Support Center (Annenberg 11th floor, 212.241.7091 or ascit@mssm.edu).
We will send individual communications outlining the plan to migrate the contents of users’ ISMMS Box files and folders to their corresponding Microsoft OneDrive prior to their scheduled migration beginning in January. File permissions and sharing information will be preserved.
Please bear in mind that the information in your Box account may be subject to the Mount Sinai Records Retention Schedule and must be retained for the required amount of time.
Below are useful guides on using Microsoft OneDrive for your storage and sharing needs.
